The Fall of Troy - The Relentless Garage, London
There was no escaping the energy that this night brought: flailing bodies everywhere, glasses being elbowed into pieces and people scampering around for their shoes on a more than one occasion. It was a truly beautiful scene of chaos. At times, it's fair to say that it was difficult to breathe, though this was more from the scent of red-bull-fuelled perspiration rather than the music itself. This is not to say, however, that quality of music was nothing less than excellent. The Fall of Troy delivered an impressive set, enjoyable even for the casual fan, like myself, who may have found it difficult to recognise each and every song played.
The crowd was met with an onslaught of favourites, including 'FCPremix', 'Ex-Creations', 'I Just Got This Symphony Going', peppered with Thomas' sultry american accent from time to time. I was eagerly informed, as well, that the most exciting part of the night was the chopping and changing of the various sections of songs within 'Phantom On The Horizon', in particular the merging of the start of 'Chapter 3…' with the ending of 'Chapter 5...'.
One of my favourite parts of the night was when they completely slowed down proceedings. The rest of band took a break while frontman Thomas 'did something different', and launched into a raw, extended version of 'Caught Up', a track very uncharacteristic of the band. The change definitely paid dividends.
On top of this, the shear volume of sound/noise evoked from the three-piece was impressive. The guitars were beastly. The fans were some of the most hardcore I've seen: every lyric religiously shouted back and every riff rightfully acknowledged. The Fall of Troy really had the crowd in the palm of their hand; the tell-tale sign of a good show.
Setlist:
What Sound Does a Mastadon Make w/ Nature vs Nurture
Panic Attack!
I Just Got This Symphony Goin'

Caught Up w/ The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
Ex-Creations
Straight-Jacket Keelhauled
F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.
Mouths Like Sidewinder Missiles
Sledgehammer
Chapter V Breakdown
